There is nothing better than a cozy coffee shop in the winter. Luckily Madrid has the best cozy coffee shops ever.
In the past, Madrid wasn’t exactly known for their coffee scene. But I think that has changed in the last few years, because now, you can find almost anything.
The options are overwhelming, so let me point you in the right direction. If you’re looking for cute, cozy coffee shops in Madrid with quality coffee that you can spend hours in, here are my top recommendations.
Admittedly, this is skewed towards the La Latina/Lavapiés area since that’s closest to where I live. If you like these guides, I’ll build out more neighborhood-specific recommendations in the future.

Perro de Pavlov
My favorite hidden gem coffee shop in Madrid that still feels undiscovered by tourists.
Perro de Pavlov is my favorite coffee shop to visit during the holidays. Their interior is red and green year-round, but they dial it up around Christmas with decorations that make it feel even cozier.
Located on a side street in La Latina, it feels slightly off the beaten path. They have a dedicated laptop-friendly area as well as comfortable table seating in the back room.
They have great toasts and baked goods, making it a great spot to warm up over a hot coffee and a toast.
Mansilla Libros y Café
The Madrid café with cozy bookstore vibes and an adorable menu.
While the menu here is pretty small and simple, this café has so much character. If you’re an avid reader and book lover, this is definitely your spot.
Mansilla Libros y Café is decorated with secondhand books, antique decor and furniture, and a beautiful vintage charm. They’re laptop friendly, so it’s easy to spend a few hours here working on a project or reading a good book.
They do all the basics well, but when I visited recently I got a tasty vanilla iced latte. I love being able to sit by the window, enjoy a coffee and do some people watching. Plus, the barista is extremely friendly and welcoming – and great at speaking English.
Nomade Café
My favorite cozy café in Madrid to get a hot chocolate, plus its delicious (and healthy) brunch menu.
The exterior of Nomade Café has a cute little otter mural, so you can’t miss it. Inside is a cozy little coffee bar with table seating throughout the café.
If you’re a chocolate lover, look no further. The hot chocolate here is the best in the city in my opinion. It’s not super thick like the traditional Spanish chocolate – it’s slightly thinner but packed with chocolatey flavor.
In addition to a 10/10 hot chocolate, they also have a great brunch menu. I really like their staff food bowl, which is essentially a buddha bowl with quinoa, halloumi, eggs, pulled pork, beet hummus, and more goodness. It’s a great spot to get a healthy but filling brunch to fuel your city adventures.
Café del Art
My go-to cozy coffee shop in Madrid for working and getting a pastel de nata.
Café del Art is a constant in my rotation of favorite coffee shops in Madrid — but especially in the winter. The interior is full of greenery and wooden decor which makes it especially cozy. It’s also much bigger than a typical coffee shop in Madrid, so you’re almost always able to get a spot (except for Sundays during El Rastro flea market).
They have fun seasonal items (including a PSL in the fall), but I usually get an iced latte or cafe con leche and a pastel de nata if I’m feeling crazy.
Pum Pum Café
Famous but cozy café in Madrid known for their specialty coffee and homemade bakery items.
Pum Pum Café is well known by tourists and locals alike. Located in Lavapiés, they have a nice coffee and brunch menu with lots of vegetarian options. They get their coffee from a local roaster who roasts and grinds almost daily, making the coffee extremely fresh.
In addition to a great brunch menu, they also sell freshly baked items from their sister bakery down the street, Pum Pum Bakery. I recently tried their croissapan de chocolate which was a chocolate croissant/bread hybrid, and it was to die for.
If you’re not a big coffee drinker, they also have seasonal lemonades, matcha, and teas on the menu.

It’s hard to pick only five, so I’ve included a few other of my go-to favorites.
Slow Coffee
Slow is a neighborhood staple that has a beautifully decorated interior and amazing coffee and toasts. The reason it didn’t make the top 5 for me is because it’s small, and I usually end up ordering takeaway.
I love a simple cafe con leche here, and they have a great toast with tomato and jamon serrano for the full Spanish experience.
Alchemy
I love Alchemy on Calle Toledo for their cinnamon latte, especially in the winter. The reason I didn’t include this one in the top 5 is also due to its size. The interior is very small and bright white, so I don’t usually spend a ton of time inside the coffee shop.
Instead, I highly recommend grabbing a warm cinnamon latte and wandering into El Rastro on Sundays. Alchemy is just outside El Rastro so lines don’t tend to be as crazy as some of the coffee shops in the heart of the flea market.
Pan y Pepinillos
I just adore Pan y Pepinillos. They have an amazing pistachio latte, and don’t even get me started on their cardamom roll.
I didn’t include this in the top 5 because I prefer coming here when the weather is nicer. I usually stop at their walk-up window and stroll around Malasaña with my coffee in hand, rather than sitting inside.
That being said, the inside is adorable – it’s just really tiny. If you’re around Malasaña, I highly recommend giving this one a visit.
Final Thoughts
